Acrylic painting with Sarah Gordon, 1st October 2024

£11.50

This class is perfect for those who live in a different time zone or couldn’t join the class on the 1st October 2024

All levels are welcome.

Please scroll along the pictures to see close up’s of the real flowers we painted - you will need to have access to these during the class so take screen shots or print them out.

Materials you will need...

PAINTS:

Acrylic or Acryla Gouache Paints (you can also use gouache if you prefer).
I love Golden and Holbein brands but student quality paints are fine too! We will adjust and mix shades as needed in the class but it will be good to have a base palette to work with.

Please use your favorite colors but some suggested colors for this class are:
White - Everyone will need some white paint for mixing paler tones. We'll also use white for some of the flowers.
A few shades of green ranging from dark green, mid green and pale green (can be mixed in class)
A warm bright yellow.
Yellow Ochre.
Warm red like Red Oxide
Dark blue like Ultramarine
A deep pink and purple like Fuchsia, Rose Violet or Violet.
Coral or Orange
We will use very pale yellow and pale pink for highlights but these can be mixed in the class using white if needed.

Optional: paint pens like Posca pens can be used for details and patterning.

PAPER:

Several sheets of watercolor paper. Hot press or cold press in any brand. Some papers I like to use are Canson and Arches. If you prefer to paint in a sketchbook that is also fine.

We will be painting on pre painted colored grounds. Please paint the grounds before class to allow for drying time. Choose your favorite ground colors! I like a range of light colored grounds in pastel shades and some deeper colors like coral, red, mustard yellow for a bolder palette.

When painting grounds on loose paper I find it helpful to tape down the edges with low tack masking tape so the paper does not buckle too much.

BRUSHES

We will use a few brush sizes - please bring the brushes you usually like to paint with. We will need a fine brush for details, a small brush for outlining, a medium brush for filling in areas plus an angled or square brush for stems and some fun sketching exercises.

The sizes I use the most are:

A fine pointy brush for line work details and patterning - a rigger brush or a fine tip size 0 or 1. – please make sure you bring this.
